Vacation Routines and Cat Sitters

For many cats, staying home with a sitter is far less stressful than traveling. But maintaining their routine is key to preventing anxiety while you’re away.

Choosing a Cat Sitter

  • Look for experience specifically with cats (not just dogs)
  • Schedule a meet-and-greet before your trip
  • Choose someone who will visit at least twice daily
  • Professional pet sitters are preferable to boarding for most cats

Preparing for Your Absence

  • Write detailed care instructions (feeding schedule, medications, routines)
  • Leave your vet’s contact information
  • Stock extra food, litter, and supplies
  • Leave a worn t-shirt with your scent
  • Ask the sitter to maintain play and feeding times

If your cat has separation anxiety, discuss strategies with the sitter in advance.
