Post-Travel Decompression for Cats

The journey doesn’t end when you arrive. Cats need time to decompress and return to their baseline comfort level.

Post-Travel Steps

1. Open the carrier door and let your cat emerge on their own time
2. Provide a quiet room with food, water, and litter
3. Don’t force interaction or pick them up
4. Resume normal routines as quickly as possible
5. Give extra treats and calm affection when they’re ready

Expected Recovery Timeline

• Short trips: A few hours to a day
• Medium trips: 1–3 days
• Long trips or moves: 1–4 weeks

Warning Signs
