How to Travel With a Cat Long Distance
Long-distance travel requires extra planning but is absolutely manageable with the right preparation.
Planning Ahead
- Plan rest stops every 2–3 hours
- Book pet-friendly accommodations in advance
- Bring enough food, litter, and supplies for the trip plus extras
- Get a health certificate from your vet if crossing state lines
- Ensure your cat’s microchip and ID tags are up to date
During Rest Stops
- Offer water and a litter box inside the car (never let your cat out unsecured)
- Never leave your cat in a parked car
- Check on their comfort level before continuing
