Cat Carrier Training Tips

Carrier training is the foundation of stress-free travel. Start weeks or months before any planned trip.

Step-by-Step Training

1. Leave the carrier out permanently with the door open or removed
2. Place treats, toys, and a familiar blanket inside
3. Feed meals near, then inside the carrier
4. Once your cat enters willingly, briefly close the door with treats inside
5. Gradually increase door-closed time from seconds to minutes
6. Pick up the carrier and walk around the house briefly
7. Progress to short car rides

Tips for Success

• Top-loading carriers are easier for reluctant cats
• Spray carrier bedding with pheromones
• Never force your cat into the carrier
• Make the carrier a permanent cozy spot, not just a travel tool
