Foods Cats Should Never Eat
Cats are curious, and some will try to eat anything they can reach. Keep these dangerous foods away from your cat.
Toxic Foods
- Onions, garlic, chives: Damage red blood cells, even in small amounts
- Chocolate: Contains theobromine, toxic to cats
- Grapes and raisins: Can cause kidney failure
- Xylitol: Artificial sweetener found in gum and some baked goods
- Alcohol: Even small amounts can be life-threatening
- Caffeine: Coffee, tea, energy drinks
- Raw eggs: Risk of salmonella and biotin deficiency
- Cooked bones: Can splinter and cause internal injury
Surprising No-Nos
- Milk and dairy: Most adult cats are lactose intolerant
- Raw fish: Can destroy thiamine (vitamin B1)
- Liver (in large amounts): Can cause vitamin A toxicity
- Dog food: Not toxic, but nutritionally inadequate
