Feeding Kittens vs Adult vs Senior Cats
Your cat’s nutritional needs change significantly as they age. Feeding the right food at the right stage supports optimal health.
Kittens (0–12 months)
Kittens need high-protein, high-calorie food formulated for growth. Feed kitten-specific food (not adult food) until about 12 months. Multiple small meals support their high metabolism.
Adults (1–7 years)
Balanced adult formula. Focus on portion control and maintaining a healthy weight. This is when obesity prevention matters most.
Seniors (7+ years)
Senior cats may need more easily digestible protein, adjusted phosphorus levels (for kidney support), and increased moisture. Some seniors need more calories (not fewer) due to decreased nutrient absorption.
For detailed age-specific care, see our Life Stages & Aging guide. When switching between life-stage foods, always transition gradually.
